The Rules of HorseBalls™

• Burry each bucket in the sand flush to the top of the bucket seven large steps apart.
• The recommended distance is 21 feet (6.40m).
• There is no official distance. Seven large steps for a smaller persona will put the buckets closer together (recommended if playing with children).
• Using the included smoothing tool, create a level landing area 2 to 3 feet in front of the bucket. The area should be as smooth as possible.
• Be sure that the sand is flush with the top of each bucket when completed.
• The landing area in front of the bucket is only smoothed once before each game, and cannot be touched during. 

• The person who last built a sand castle or dug a hole goes first.
• Using 1 ball, take turns throwing back and forth trying to put the ball in the opposing bucket.
• When retrieving a missed shot from the smoothed landing area, be sure not to create any additional divots or marks in the sand.
• Each bucket scores 1 point. The first one to 3 points wins the game; however, you must win by 2 points. The score can go as high as needed until this is accomplished.

• A 4 player game follows the 2 player rules, except you will use 2 balls and have one player from each team on each side.
• Both players on the same side take a shot. 
• If both players are successful in making their shot, the points are cancelled out and no score is awarded to either team.
• If a score is awarded, the team that scored goes first on the next turn. 

If you are playing somewhere that does not allow the buckets to be buried, place the buckets on flat ground at an agreed upon distance apart.

• Add weight into the buckets to prevent them from tipping over.
• It is recommended to put the buckets closer together than you would when playing where they can be buried.
• All of the above rules apply however the ball needs to land and stay in the bucket to count. Bouncing the ball into the bucket is legal in this instance.
